Care home residents at risk of Legionnaires disease
A tale of woe from our own back yard. The UK Health and Safety executive HSE released a damning report on a care home in Moray in NE Scotland, accusing the care home of not taking adequate precautions with their hot and cold water system to prevent staff and patients from being at risk of exposure to Legionella, the bacterium which causes Legionnaires disease. Care home residents, being older and often infirm, are in the demographic which is most at risk of infection.
There is no doubt that monitoring the risk through the use of regular rapid testing would alert management to the risks quickly allowing them to take immediate action and reducing risks from any flaws in management of the water system. This type of rapid testing requires no specialist expertise on the part of technical staff. The patented Hydrosense Legionella App reader instantly sends test results and generates warnings if levels of key criteria indicate a risk, notifying responsible management if any action is required.
